Looking for a new job can be incredibly challenging. This is especially true if you are already working in your chosen career field as you have to be more discreet during the recruitment and interview process. Once you send out your CV to companies and receive an interview, you have to find the time off to prepare for, and ace, the interview and get the job.
Now what? You have a new job and you start right away. It’s the construction career that you have always wanted, so now it’s time to make a good impression. By getting that important first week under your belt, you will have shown that you are the right candidate for the job and you can start working your way up to that next promotion.
Having said that, let’s take a look at some important do’s and don’ts for your first week on the job:
Do Be Social- your first day at work is typically spent meeting your new coworkers, and getting a tour of the workplace. Take this time to meet as many people as possible and learn their names and their specific job titles. Making a good first impression is important during your first week at a new job.
Do Follow The Rules- every workplace has its own set of rules and guidelines that you are expected to follow. It is important that learn and follow these on your first week on the job. This will show off your work ethic and that you can be trusted to do your job properly.
Don’t Ignore Your Boss- there are many instances where new employees completely ignore management as soon as they are hired. Find out who your immediate supervisor is right away and make it a point to talk to them during your first week on the job.
Don’t Request Time Off- don’t request any time off during your first week at a new job. Your first week is about working and making a good impression and asking for time off should be the last thing on your mind.
